Kailash Satyarthi is an internationally recognized humanitarian leader dedicated to abolishing child labor and guaranteeing the right to education for every child. Following the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi, his decades-long struggle has been fundamentally rooted in non-violent methods, even during aggressive rescue missions to free bonded children.In 1980, he founded Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement), a grassroots organization that has directly rescued over 100,000 children from slavery, trafficking, and exploitation, successfully rehabilitating them into mainstream society. Beyond direct intervention, his peace work extends globally. He was the driving force behind the 1998 Global March Against Child Labour, a massive movement that pressured international bodies and led directly to the adoption of the ILO Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.For his "struggle against the suppression of children," Satyarthi was co-awarded the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, solidifying his belief that global peace and justice are inextricably linked to the freedom and education of all children.
