Smart Peace Prize
Smart Peace Prize
Threats abound, challenges grow. In a world plagued by strong international tensions and multiple crises that threaten Peace and international balances, we fiercely oppose our emotion but we rarely mobilize our reason, thus making our capacity for anticipation weak. Thus it appeared to us that the source of any surge was the awareness by public opinion of the seriousness of our situation because the awareness of war is the prerequisite of the spirit of Peace. This awareness would be all the more effective if it were done from a very young age. The pedagogy of Peace aimed at the youngest could anchor reflexes of tolerance and respect which would positively condition the behavior of future adults and prevent violent attitudes. Integrating peace education as a basic teaching is essential to change mentalities and make future generations more peaceful and concerned about the stability of the world. To this end, our organization has decided to create the Smart Peace Prize for Peace Education in Early Childhood. This initiative rewards each year an educational program that raises awareness among the youngest (from 3 years old) about the culture of Peace, dialogue and respect for others.

Women for Development
Smart Peace Prize 2023
Women for Development has been active for over 20 years and was one of the first organizations in

70,000 children, their teachers, and parents alike, across more than 850 schools, Women for
Development has achieved the remarkable feat of integrating its programs into the national education
curriculum in Armenia. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Women for Development has
published several textbooks for teachers and students to promote best practices in fostering a culture of
peace and non-violence among the youngest members of society.
The Prize awarded to Dr. Markosyan, recognizing her decades of work for peace, was conceived and
created by Iranian artist Mariam Agar. Indeed, it is also a founding mission of Leaders for Peace to
contribute to renewing attention on forgotten conflicts.

CapDH Mali
Smart Peace Prize 2020
The Center for Assistance and Promotion of Human Rights (CapDH Mali) is a Malian association established in Bamako in March 2008 with the aim of making Mali a true rule of law where human rights are promoted and respected. The members of this association have taken on the mission to promote human rights, peace culture, and citizenship in Mali, and to help victims defend and enjoy their rights.
In partnership with the Peace School of Grenoble and launched in 2016, the project « Education for Peace, Civic Education, and Living Together » aims to promote values of tolerance, peace, and coexistence in schools, especially for children aged 5 to 13, to enable future generations to become peacebuilders. To achieve this, CapDH and the Peace School of Grenoble have developed a pedagogical tool « Objective Peace Mali » adapted to the socio-cultural and pedagogical context of Mali, which aims to assist primary school teachers and involve the children’s family and community environment.
This tool has been implemented through the production of image kits, a pedagogical guide, and training modules for both children and teachers. Started in 2016, this project has been implemented in the teaching academies of Kati and Bamako – Rive Gauche and has reached over 25,000 students, trained 429 teachers, and raised awareness among 506 parents about peace culture.
